More Speed Limit 30

In its Urban Development Plan for Transportation, Berlin’s city government decided to introduce a 30km/h speed limit on more street segments. Together with a city working group, the VMZ researched which street segments were good candidates for speed limit 30 during the day or at night according to safety, noise and air pollution considerations.

Goodbye traffic jams: A Concept for the LISA Corridor East.

Goodbye traffic jams: A Concept for the LISA Corridor East. It’s best to avoid traffic congestion on motorways with a wide detour. LISA (trans-province information and strategy management) makes this possible. The VMZ developed a framework which now informs LISA for wide stretches of Eastern Germany. Based on our in-house procedure for network-wide strategic planning, the concept defines detour strategies and makes prognoses for technical and organizational implementation.

Traffic Modelling

Forecasts cannot be measured. Traffic models reproduce decisions made by users, as they are to be expected in particular under changing conditions (e.g. growth of the city). With the help of transport modelling, the decision-makers can check the effects of various transport policy measures ex ante on the basis of transport models and make precise decisions based on these (e.g. shortening the intervals between trains).

Traffic Management IGA Berlin 2017

The International Garden Show 2017 was a highlight in Berlin’s calendar. The VMZ contributed with a transportation concept determining expected crowd flows and analyzing their distribution among entrances and the transportation options car, bus, tram, subway, and commuter rail. This analysis was the basis for solutions for concrete measures and protection of local residents.

Strategies for E-Mobility

Electromobility is a critical building block in the transportation revolution. VMZ helps you estimate the opportunities: Where is there concrete potential for your municipality, your city, or your region? What is the current status of charging infrastructure and where is there a need for expanding it? How can we make better use of existing infrastructure? Which locations are suitable for increasing capacities?

Disruption Management

What to do when traffic and transportation flows are interrupted? It’s best to be prepared with alternative routes on hand. The VMZ helps by determining the risk for incidents and breakdowns on your transportation network and developing reliable action plans – for single areas or the whole network. We show you whether and where you need to improve your information system and implement software which will put every involved control center in the position to react quickly, safely, and in a coordinated manner.

Traffic Detection AVUS Site

The AVUS is the most important traffic hub on the way to Berlin. Construction here requires removing traffic sensors. The VMZ planned, implemented and managed a suitable replacement so that Berliners and visitors could still remain informed about the current traffic situation.

Evaluation UVM Potsdam

With its ‘Environment- Oriented Traffic Management’ (UVM), Brandenburg’s capital city aims to reduce air pollution levels by facilitating a continuous traffic flow. The VMZ configured an IMMIS Simulation system to determine the effect of flow-interrupting traffic light configurations on air and traffic quality.
